2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Makes Splash With A Sleek New Persona
When the first Ford Escape was launched 20 years ago … the small SUV was a novel concept in America. Consequently the Ford Escape was a shrunken down version of the popular Ford Explorer SUV, based on collaboration with Mazda.
The 4th generation 2020 Ford Escape leaps into a crowded market of compact SUVs and small crossovers, making a splash with a sleek aerodynamic profile and a distinctive new front grill and lighting array.
Though at first glance it seems smaller than previous editions, the all new $24,000 – $35,000 Ford Escape is actually longer and wider than the previous architecture, and it is slung lower with more of a hatchback appeal.
The new performance package is impressive with a 200 horsepower combined gas and electric powertrain offered in a choice of Hybrid* or Plug-in Hybrid with 2.5L iVCT Atkinson-cycle hybrid engines, rated for up 44 mpg and 37 miles of all electric range for local driving.
The driving experience of the new Escape is much improved with brighter sportier handling, certainly related to shedding 200 lb thanks to extensive use of high-strength steel construction.
