2021 Acura TLX Flexes Motorsports Muscle Wrapped in Luxury
The new 2021 Acura TLX is the evolution of two acclaimed models … the TL and TSX. In 2005 the TL was ranked as the second best-selling luxury sedan in the United States behind the BMW 3 series.
Performance is in the Acura DNA — with a strong Honda motorsports presence as an engine supplier for vaunted Formula One teams like Williams and McLaren in the 80s, and its early 90s Honda IndyCar entry.
In recent years tricked out street rods like the Honda Civic Type R and the unicorn second generation Acura NSX supercar have boosted both brands’ hot rocket cred.
The TLX makes its move against other luxury performance sedan leaders with style, substance and a noteworthy new Acura head enveloping airbag design.
Emphasizing sports car manners and an aggressive new American muscle car looks, the initial TLX — priced from $37,500 -$48,000 — is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0 liter 272 horsepower inline 4 cylinder mated to a 10-Speed Automatic transmission with optional paddle shifting.
A 355 horsepower dual scroll V6 is on the way for a screaming S-Type performance model coming later this year.
