2024 Mazda CX-30 A Crossover In Styling & Marketing

While Mazda makes some of the best engineered, top value vehicles anywhere, the logic of new model nomenclature system is elusive.

The latest Mazda CX-30 Crossover Utility Vehicle, available in 8 trims, can range from very basic to competitively posh. Quite roomy and cargo ready, it is actually misleadingly classified as a subcompact. With trim levels ranging from a very modest $22,950 to a stylishly loaded $38,000, the CX-30 is still $10,000 less than the average car sold in America these days.

Despite a small footprint the elegantly long, lean and sporty Mazda profile, with the addition of cladded wheel wells for mild off-road duty and challenging urban pothole dodging, leaps across a few market segments for broader appeal.

The base 2.5 L 4-cylinder posts an admirable 191 horsepower and impressive 26 city and 33 highway mileage stats. For the top CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus the same Skyactiv-G engine pumps 227 horsepower … which propels this 3,500 lb flyweight hatchback like a bandit.

The Mazda CX-30 is commendable for its high tone luxury interior and full suite of safety and tech, but a wonky infotainment system.
