New 2019 Nissan Altima Bucks the “Sedan Is Dead” Drumbeat
To paraphrase Mark Twain ‘Reports of the demise of the sedan have been greatly exaggerated!’ Despite declining sales of traditional sedans industry-wide, the design cues, interior amenities, tech and solid road-worthiness of the new 2019 Nissan Altima are impressive.
The strong selling Altima is both a shrewd downside play in the midsize sedan segment that still drives 2 million US unit sales a year, and possibly a prescient move for the future.
Nissan research has shown compellingly that the coming bulge in the buying demographic, are younger customers who will reject the SUV format they associate with their parents.
With this in mind the $28,000 base priced Altima, with a noteworthy all-wheel drive option presents a bold yet artful exterior accentuating a lunging posture with a beefed up, lower slung V motion grill up front.
Using new variable compression VC-Turbo technology debuted in the Infiniti QX50, the Altima smoothly changes the compression ratio over a broad range creating greater efficiency and better performance.
The VC Turbo 2.5 liter 4 cylinder delivers 248 horsepower with a 15% improvement in mileage and boosted performance over the previous 3.5 liter V6.
