The New Subaru Crosstrek Harkens Back To Its Iconic Early Wagons

The day you learn about a Bombogenesis weather event — a.k.a. the Bomb Cyclone winter hurricane – and watch windswept snow get iced over by fiercely cold temperatures, it feels good to have a new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek in the driveway!

The small sport utility rage – the fastest growing US auto segment — has come full circle for Subaru which blazed its loyalty trail with the iconic little GL wagons of the early 70’s.

The newest second generation Crosstrek sports the high-riding rugged theme, served up on the new Subaru Global Platform. While it is largely a hiked up Impreza with aggressive exterior and exterior design cues, the Crosstrek is a decidedly ardent little performer with 5 door hatchback practicality.

Powered by a durable new 2.0 liter 4 cylinder BOXER direct injection engine churning out a healthy 152 horsepower, the new Crosstrek is a good daily driver and with the X-Mode and Hill Descent Control, very able in challenging terrain.

For traditionalists a 6 speed manual transmission is standard with a nicely evolved 7-speed CVT automatic available. Active link torque vectoring adds sharp handling to this impressive $30,000 Subaru.
