The Latest Generation Hyundai Sonata Matures With Style and Technology!
When Hyundai introduced the latest Sonata mid-sized sedan to the motor press, the first test-drives rolled right off the production line at the company’s massive modern Alabama factory. While it was an inspired flourish of PR spectacle, the car itself was dwarfed by the sheer awesomeness of the surroundings.
After a recent full week test drive, the Hyundai Sonata proves far more impressive, demonstrating why it is such a strong entry in the troubled sedan category. The looks of the current Sonata are more reserved than the earlier generation with its distinctive sweeping character lines, but the redesign, which at first seemed too plain, now appears strikingly elegant.
The Sonata Sport 2.0T rolling on new 18” wheels, is stylish and spirited but still priced at just under $30,000. With an efficient 245 horsepower 4-cylinder engine, mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission with electronic manual paddle shifters, the Sonata delivers strong 23 city 32- highway mpg EPA stats. In addition satisfying road performance, weight reduction and tech tweaks, the Sonata’s interior has gotten a nice upscale makeover, and new technology throughout is key to the winning Hyundai ethic.
