Viral Video of Cops Live Stop of Driverless Car A Metaphor

A hilarious video that went viral this week of two San Francisco Police haplessly attempting to do a routine traffic stop of a driverless car seems a perfect metaphor for the massive changes sweeping the auto industry.

While the EV revolution has taken the better part of 20 years to spark up, the dominant Tesla brand is seeing its competition grow exponentially. Not only was the all-electric 500 mile range 1,111 horsepower Lucid Air named the 2022 Motor Trend Car of the Year, but more value oriented EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 are winning consumer confidence.

While trucks continue to rule the roost in the US market, the most talked about models are smaller easier to drive models like the Ford Maverick small pickup and the Hyundai Santa Cruz mini-pickup which outsold the legacy favorite Chevy Corvette for several months last year. Even Subaru is reviving its quirky cult favorite Baja as a mid-sized pickup in 2023.

Meanwhile SUV buyers feeling the pinch of higher gas prices are opting for kinder gentler, smaller family haulers like the Mazda CX-5 and the Volkswagen Taos.
