EV Launch Benefits Genesis Brand Building & Market Share

When the Genesis brand of the Hyundai Group premiered in 2016 the timing seemed perfect. With the improved quality Hyundai – Kia juggernaut of the early 2000s, and the major league status of being the 5th largest carmaker in the world – now up to third position – the step up to new luxury was a natural.

And while the initial reaction from the motor press was good, and the line-up including sedans and SUVs was impressive, establishing a footprint in the market and successfully introducing electrified models would be challenging. With the disruptions of Covid-19, the Genesis plans were truncated and now they are heavily promoting two impressive EV offerings including the GV70 Crossover SUV and the G80 luxury sedan.

Despite reports of waning demand, the Genesis EVs barrel ahead with the max-quilted leather interiors, advanced hands-free steering and collision avoidance cameras and safety features. The G80 priced shy of $80,000, is powered by two electric motors producing 365 horsepower with a full charge battery range of over 280 miles. This Genesis has great energy off the line and for highway maneuvers with excellent All Wheel Drive handling.
