Volvo S60 T5 An Underappreciated Gem
While the auto industry struts its new stuff at the North American International Auto Show, it’s easy to forget some recent models, already on the road, which are hugely underappreciated.
Though the brand is having trouble selling enough cars to be truly competitive in the US, the Volvo S60 T5 is by far one of the best cars on the road, offering style, safety and real value at about $38,000 fully equipped.
The sport-profiled Volvo S60 succeeds on many levels but stunning looks and sex appeal are foremost. Equipped with a 2.5 liter 260 horsepower 5-cylinder engine the S60 is explosively powerful and yet turns in excellent 24 city 30 highway mileage stats. The handling is competition worthy courtesy of a power-assisted rack and pinion steering and an array traction and stability control technology.
Inside the elegance is subtle but pervasive with comfortable and supportive seating and the futuristic touch of the floating center console control panel. Safety, always a hallmark of Volvo, pioneers of the 3-point seat belt and the continuously welded passenger safety cage, is assured by its top rankings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
